“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16
This month we’ve looked at some of the sweet words of Jesus, the challenging words of Jesus, and the deep, longer teachings of Jesus. Now we turn to several passages of His most urgent words, beginning with the well-known John 3:16, a passage of great significance despite its familiarity.
Jesus’ strong words to Nicodemus about salvation through Him were radical, changing everything Nicodemus thought he understood about God. Jesus showed him that all his knowledge and model living were not guarantees of salvation. That would come with rebirth and belief in Christ.
During 50 years of ministry life, I have had the joy of kneeling alongside people at church altars, opening my Bible, and sharing the truth with them. I have inserted their names in the place of the “whoever” in John 3:16. I’ve wept with them as they accept Jesus as their Savior. Without Christ, people are lost and hopeless. But reborn in Christ, they are on the way to heaven. Rejoice, because even the angels in heaven celebrate when one person is born again!
