“Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind…. My feet stand on level ground; in the great assembly I will praise the LORD.”

Psalm 26:2, 12
The life of the shepherd-king, David, was at times tainted by the sinful choices he made. At other times, his cup of joy was filled. How very like all of us today still struggling between the byproducts of our sin here on earth and the future hope of overflowing goodness one day in heaven.
When David was bringing back to Jerusalem the Ark of the Covenant, the joy he had was indeed like a cup running over. David led the exuberant caravan as they sang and danced along the way. But the disobedience of one man, Uzzah, brought on God’s anger and called the processional to a halt. There was a three-month delay while David and his people quaked in fear at the Lord’s far-reaching wrath. He would not stand for His ark—His presence—to be dishonored.
Undoubtedly, you have known times when your previously-filled cup has been tipped over and emptied out. The joy ended. In those times, it is good to ask yourself the hard questions. Is there sin in your life you must face? Come to the Lord in repentance. He will fill your cup again.
