“Then Haggai, the LORD’S messenger, gave this message of the LORD to the people: ‘I am with you,’ declares the LORD.”

Haggai 1:13
To wrap up the first half of this month seeing how God’s presence was with His people through the Old Testament, we come to the prophecy book of Haggai, one which might be unfamiliar to you. As time rolled on before the arrival of the Messiah, God continually told His people that He was with them. And what a treasure it is that He has not stopped making that known to you and me today!

When I read through the two chapters of the short book of Haggai, I found the words challenging. To the Israelites Haggai said, “Give careful thought to your ways” (1:5, 7; 2:15). He was confronting God’s people because they had lost their focus and were living more for themselves than for God, the One who had been unconditionally faithful to them. Haggai called this remnant of people back to commitment. Their reaction to Haggai’s appeal to them was to begin work again on the house of the Lord.

With the assurance that Jesus is always with us, even “to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20), we consider our ways and renew our passion to live for Him.
