"You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden."
(MATTHEW 5:14)

Matthew 5:13-16
When my buddy Colin tells me a camera is good, I believe him because he’s the best cinematographer I know. When my friend Ryan recommends a new place to eat, I go because he owns one of the best restaurants in town. When people with authority talk, we listen.

Jesus stood on a mountain and told His followers, “You are the light of the world.” He wasn’t making a mere suggestion. He was authoritatively stating a fact. Followers of Jesus are the light of the world, God’s personal torches in the darkness. You are who Jesus says you are, and His word is not to be disputed.

The crowds following Jesus were amazed at His teaching because it came with such authority (see Matthew 7:28-29). Jesus even told the people Himself, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). In Psalm 8 we read of Jesus long before He set foot on this earth: “You made him ruler over the works of your hand; you put everything under his feet” (v.6).

Listen to Jesus’ unshakable words telling us what we are.
