For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 1:20
Martin belongs to the prison congregation in Newton Correctional Facility. I’ve grown accustomed to hearing “yes” from Martin. Do you want to be part of the inside council? “Yes.” Would you like to become a Stephen Minister? “Yes.” Could you be an encourager for a newly baptized member of the prison church? “Yes.” Will you pray at the start of the worship service? “Yes.” Martin may not necessarily want to do all these activities. But he leans toward yes when God calls him to service.

If you’re overcommitted and feeling burned out, perhaps it’s wise to say “no” to taking on more. God may not be calling you to be involved in a particular activity. Thankfully, in His grace God the Father gives His children a spirit of discernment to determine if we need to say yes or no.

What’s even more valuable to us is knowing that whether we get our yes or no right, all the promises of God to us find their “yes” in Jesus Christ. Will He always love us? Always care for us? Always forgive us? Always draw our hearts to Him? Yes!
