“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.’’

James 5:16
My grandson is stationed with the Army on Okinawa. As grandparents we want to reach out to him as much as possible, so I am planning a trip to visit him. I know how to get myself to the island, but I need his address.
Reaching out to God requires knowing how to get in touch with Him. We need the address! Scripture gives it to us: “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). We “dial” God in prayer, believing He will answer. And He does so because of His Son’s sacrifice on our behalf.
I see people desperately searching to make sense of their problems. When things are especially rough, many call out in prayer. Studies by psychologists even say that prayer “to a higher power” has a positive effect on a person’s healing process. But you’ll never get an answer on the end of the line if you’re trying to reach a “higher power” of your own making. Call out to Jesus in faith because before you ever sought Him, He said, “I have called you by name; you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1).

Insight

When you are driven to prayer, make sure you’re not talking to yourself. Talk to the One who created you, formed you, and redeemed you.
