“‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things.’”

Luke 10:41
The devil will do all he can to convince you that other things are more important than the Lord. One of Satan’s strategies to keep us away from God is filling our lives with distractions. Often our “blessings” have us so busy that, like Martha, we become worried and upset. Troubling burdens interfere with bearing the fruits of the Spirit. We can’t help worrying about the “many things” and rarely take the time to sit at the feet of the Lord for nourishment.
Take a deep breath along with me. Think of my brothers and sisters in Cuba who exist in a much more slow-paced world. Due to limitations with technology and no high-speed internet, they know that just about everything will take more time than expected. The waits are long, but they have found enjoyment in it.
My mission trips to Cuba have reminded me to stop, sit, and listen to the Lord’s teaching. Perhaps something in your life reminds you to do the same. Hear Jesus’ words to Martha spoken also to us: “Few things are needed—or indeed only one” (Luke 10:42). He is that One!
