1 John 3:1; 4:7-19
When we see something every day, it becomes more difficult to experience wonder. I currently live in the Rockies, but I moved away from them for many years. I am still captivated by their majesty, especially the way the winter sun graces them after a fresh snowfall. But my grandchildren, who have always lived in their shadow, hardly notice the familiar peaks.


The wonder of God’s great love toward me is something I treasure dearly, but I confess that sometimes the familiar words of John 3:16 barely stir my heart – “For God so loved the world…” I asked God to show me the wonders of His love afresh as I read that familiar verse again, and He reminded me that Paul prayed that God’s people would “have power…to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:18-19). The wonder of God’s love surpasses knowledge, but we see it most in His greatest act of love displayed on the cross.
