"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand."
(JOHN 10:27-28)

John 10
Advertisers work hard persuading us to spend money. Often they want us to believe things that aren’t true – that we need to be more beautiful, that we need to drive better cars, that we need more friends. I remember laundry detergent commercials when I was a kid warning of the embarrassment of “ring around the collar.” I have worked in the corporate world for over two decades. Never once have I been turned down for a job or promotion because of my collar! But persuasive ad campaigns can make us second-guess what we once thought true.

In the Garden, the serpent’s alluring lie was, “You shall become as God.” Adam and Eve’s consequences for falling for his scheme continue to this day. Sin and its effects are all around us and inside us.

But God never tricks us; what He says is true. And Jesus, our Good Shepherd, leads us in truth because He is the truth (John 14:6). Notice that Jesus doesn’t say we need to listen “for” His voice, but “to” it. He promises we will never be left to wonder if we are hearing Him or not.
