“For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”

Romans 1:17
Who comes to mind when you hear the name Martin Luther? Maybe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? I’m thinking of the Martin Luther who was born in Germany in 1483 and whose efforts resulted in the Protestant Reformation. Calling the church back to the truth that men and women are declared right with God by faith alone, he suffered tremendously for his efforts. Yet by God’s grace he endured, and the course of Christian history would never be the same. Romans 1:17 was his constant refrain: “The righteous will live by faith.”
This month, I want us to get to know this man who was so in love with the good news that he staked his life on it. Drawing mainly on quotes from Luther’s 1535 Commentary on Galatians but looking at many places in Scripture, together we will explore the good news of Jesus Christ. Luther wrote in the preface to that book: “In my heart reigns this one article, faith in my dear Lord Christ, the beginning, middle, and end of whatever spiritual and divine thoughts I may have, whether by day or by night.”
Author: Dan, a recent graduate of Westminster Seminary California is the assistant to Haven Ministries’ President, Charles Morris. By 2018 Dan’s voice will be heard in Spanish weeknights through Haven’s Bible teaching radio broadcast all over Cuba, the first of its kind in Cuba since the 1950s. Dan grew up on the mission field in Sinaloa, Mexico, and has been married to Mariana for six years. When he has time, he thoroughly enjoys fishing or mining dusty old books for treasure.
