“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food… she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.”

Genesis 3:6
Our hunger doesn’t always lead us in the right direction. Just as we might bypass the apples for a doughnut, we might also bypass gentle words and reach for sharp criticism instead. We choose the wrong over the right. Where will your hunger lead you today—to God or away from Him?
When the serpent enticed Eve, he turned her attention from the goodness of God to the allure of the forbidden fruit. He awakened her hunger for something God had forbidden. God’s lavish goodness was demonstrated to Eve through every other tree in the garden that He’d given her for food. As far as her eyes could see, all was a gift except for a single tree. She was free to take and eat.
But that day, she saw not that God was good, but that the tree looked good. So she ate, rejecting the gift and violating the command.
What looks good to you today? When our hunger leads us away from God to something we think is better, we must go to another tree, the one where Jesus Himself bore our sinful hungers and showed us just how good God really is.
