“My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare.”

Psalm 25:15
Faith is both from God and for God. The order is important. Before we can put our faith in Jesus, He must deposit it within our hearts. An unlit lantern has only darkness to offer. We have no light unless Christ lives within us, for He is the light of life. But when the Spirit lights the matchstick of faith within our darkened hearts, we are set ablaze with the light and life of Christ. This is not for nothing. We come alive for a purpose. “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). In this way, faith is both from and for God. He is the origin, outcome, and object of our faith.

Have you ever tried to balance a broom straight up and down in the palm of your hand? If you look down at your hand, the broom will crash to the floor. But if you look up, the broom stays standing. This is a parable for faith. Looking to our sin and weakness will only cause us to fall into despair. When we look to Christ in faith, He causes us to stand.
