What Has Your Father?

Anchor Devotional - 12.15.13

"Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout.
He was waiting for the consolation of Israel,
and the Holy Spirit was upon him."

(LUKE 2:25)

Luke 2:21-35

Don’t all of us look forward to the arrival of our loved ones when they’ve been gone for a time? The Cratchit family in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol sure did. The family’s excitement mounted as they waited for their father to come home for Christmas.

The waiting period for Simeon must have been even more intense – for years he’d been anticipating seeing the Messiah! When the moment finally arrived, all involved were amazed at God’s provision. Simeon approached Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus, and – being filled with the Holy Spirit – broke out in praise and prophecy.

What are you waiting for today? It may be that someone you love would return, or something you’ve lost might be found, or some situation would change. The months and years going by can be disheartening. As Simeon waited in expectation, his eyes of faith trusted that what the Lord had promised would happen. You can also trust as you wait for the Lord to work in your life or in the life of a loved one. He is faithful to all His promises.
