"I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."
(PSALM 9:1-2)

Psalm 145

Sometimes when we ponder all the things we don’t have to contend with, our feelings of gratitude well up: the burdens that have been lifted, the uncertainties that have been settled, the suffering we’ve been spared. Then when we consider all we do have, we’re speechless: God considers us His friends due to our relationship with Jesus (Romans 5:11), people and resources grace our path when we direly need them, the Lord’s healing keeps renewing our bodies and minds, people’s thoughtfulness buffers painful events, His word dependably lifts our spirits, the comfort of the Holy Spirit is unfailing, etc.

When we thank the Lord for all He’s given us, our awareness of His mercy sweetly multiplies until nearly everything becomes reason for praise. Though now we see through a glass darkly (1 Corinthians 13:12), looking through a lens of gratitude greatly clarifies our vision.

In Christ, we have everything (1 Corinthians 2:12) and will never lack any good thing (Psalm 34:10). How could we keep from singing?
