“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12
These are turbulent times. News reports abound with disasters, divisions, and despair. As the battle is raging, how would God have us respond? Scripture demonstrates that the Lord uses some unusual tactics in warfare.
Gideon’s story was one example of God’s unexpected warfare strategies. God chose the runt of the weakest clan for a leader and then pared his forces down to 300 men to match an army of 135,000. Rather than swords, Gideon and his men were using torches in pitchers with trumpets as their weapons. With these unusual orders, anyone might be fearful, but God graciously gave Gideon confirmation of victory. He then went forth in the strength of the Lord (see Judges 7:13-15).
Can we apply this same strategy to our difficulties? Yes! Whatever spiritual battles are raging around you, go forth in the strength of the Lord. When you face the challenges of the world with the light of Christ shining brightly, when you sound the trumpet call of the gospel, you point a desperate world to Jesus. He alone is our Victor!
