"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
(Romans 12:2)

Philippians 3:17-21
Partly because I can’t afford to, but mostly because I’m too busy, I don’t make a big effort to conform to current fall fashions. Perhaps I’m just old enough to think that since trends re-emerge from decades ago, my “vintage” clothes may actually come into style again!

The social patterns of this world are also continually changing. Currently it is fashionable to don contrasting stripes of snarky cynicism and blind optimism, and even followers of Christ are tempted to conform to that look. It requires less time and effort than what is radically needed – the daily renewing of our minds! That is, learning to think differently about things that happen – to know that in God’s goodness and grace, His will is “good, pleasing and perfect” – not just to Him, but to us. Not just for God, but for us, because He cares for you. If God’s will is something you didn’t want or ask for, rather than breaking down doors to change it, why not test it by walking courageously through the door He has left open? What might happen if you did?
