“Fear not, for I have redeemed you … When you pass through the waters, … through the rivers … through the fire … I will be with you; … Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”

Isaiah 43:1-2, 5
The Lord knows how prone to fear and anxiety we are. It’s why even angelic appearances in the Bible began with the words, “Do not be afraid.” Some 100 “fear not” Scripture verses can be found. And these days, it seems that our post-pandemic world is more saddled by fear now than it was before 2020.

The Prophet Isaiah reminded Israel of their Deliverer in chapters 41 and 42. God is the Author of their redemption. In chapter 43 He promised His presence through whatever dangerous waters, rivers, and fires of life confronted them. God has given us our Deliverer, Jesus, who conquered all of these and death when He rose from the grave.

Pianist and songwriter Don Moen composed a concert titled “God with Us.” My wife and I were part of the choral group that joined together with orchestral accompaniment to present this wonder of Immanuel, God with us. Moen himself conducted the concert, and it was awe-inspiring. The story told through the music and spoken word was simple: Jesus is alive and present with us in the most difficult times of life.
