“He explained to them what was in all the Scriptures concerning himself. … At the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him.”

Luke 24:30-31
In the account of the two friends on the road to Emmaus, we get a glimpse of what it was like to be with Jesus. Even though they didn’t at first realize it, Jesus was there, right in the midst of their disappointment. He showed up in the flesh! And when He saw their long faces, He asked, “What’s going on?”
They answered, “You don’t know? You must not be from Jerusalem! Jesus of Nazareth, the one we hung all our hopes on, is dead.”
Can you imagine taking a seven-mile walk with the risen Jesus while He explains the Bible to you from Moses on? No class you could take or Bible study book you could read would compare to being taught by Jesus Himself. The two friends must have listened intently, feeling their very hearts burning as He talked (v. 32).
Jesus is still revealing Himself in ways you too can understand. He knows you intimately. He speaks the words that give life until it seems that suddenly a light is turned on and a veil is removed. You want to learn more. You get it! You recognize Him! It’s Jesus!
