“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”

Psalm 18:19
Airplane travel gives me angst. I don’t like the tight seating, the recycled air, the closeness to strangers. But I love the feeling of reaching my destination and deplaning, especially if the place of arrival is sunny and vacation-like.
Jesus brings us to a “spacious place” where we can breathe deeply of His goodness and share Him with friends who know Him too. Sin and its effects bring trouble and grief. But the Father has sent Jesus to undo what has been done. He takes what is wrong and uses it to bring about what is right. And all of this He does not because we have earned it, but because He delights in us.
That feeling of freedom and finally being there after a long flight is a small picture of what Psalm 121 promises. The Maker of heaven and earth is your continual help, your watchman, and your shade. You need not be anxious. He promises you safe arrival in a place of ultimate and eternal joy. The Lord will watch over the coming and going of your life, and the journey is entirely worth it with Him at your side.
