“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

Proverbs 16:24
The sweetest, most life-giving words anyone can hear are “I love you.” They’ve brought healing to me.
My own father didn’t tell me he loved me until he was 80 years old. It came after I finally began to tell him, “I love you”, each time I spoke to him. Oh, he didn’t say anything at first. My expression of love for him seemed to surprise him and make him feel uncomfortable. He didn’t quite know how to react. But eventually these gentle words softened the hard ground and worked on his soul. I will always remember the day he said, “I love you”, back to me. Both of our hearts were knit closer together from that time on.
The only reason any believer can communicate sincerely in words or actions that they love someone is because Jesus Christ first told us the same. And furthermore, He has loved us with an everlasting love (see Jeremiah 31:3). Let those words and the truth of the gospel change your heart and soften the ground that once was hard. His love gives you the capacity to love where there once was no love at all.
