“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

2 Peter 1:3
From Genesis 37-50 we read the detailed and compelling story of Joseph. As part of an evil plot, his brothers sold him into slavery to Ishmaelite merchants. From one misfortune to another, we see that nothing happened to Joseph that was not ordained by the righteous hand of the Lord. What Joseph’s brothers meant for evil, God intended for good (50:20). When betrayal and bitterness took aim at Joseph, he remained a fruitful vine because of “the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of
Israel” (49:24).
You and I have access to Joseph’s Rock through the victory of Jesus Christ on the cross. The cross reminds us of the promises of Jesus and the hope of being conformed to His image, character, and word. Joseph’s story foreshadowed the suffering and redemption of our Rock of Ages. Joseph himself reflected the character of God and displayed the fruits of goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love… all of which came to fullness generations later in our Rock and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
