Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.

Psalm 40:5
Before July of 2014 I was a physically active, successful person. I could go on long bike rides or runs, play any sport with my children, take walks with my wife. I’d carry a heavy backpack of gear for family hiking trips. As a corporate real estate attorney, I relied on my mind to complete transactions worth millions of dollars. Annually, I directed a bike event for hundreds of riders and volunteers. Life in my mid-40s was characterized by freedom, confidence, and very little pain.
But all of that changed one day when I had a stroke that nearly took my life and left half of my body paralyzed and the other half diminished in function. My mind lost much of its speed and ability. I cannot drive, struggle to complete basic tasks, and live with a high degree of pain.
Yet through these losses, I have known the tender mercies of God. He has planned for His glory to shine through my family. The devotions that follow are written during a time of ongoing struggle and are meant to encourage you and me to trust God’s perfect plan.
