Sara hung up the phone, frustrated. She thought being at college meant more independence. Her mom simply wanted to know about her classes, but Sara was bothered by the daily calls. She decided not to answer them for the next two weeks.
What is your response to this? If you are younger, you may relate to Sara. But if you’re older and perhaps even have lost a parent, you’d probably give anything to be in Sara’s shoes, able to hear your mom’s voice again. We often do not realize the blessing of parents, and we don’t always find joy in them. Yet God provides parents for our good.
Still, no earthly parent is perfect. For all the wiping of noses, the enduring of children’s fits, the working to provide what is needed and beyond, and the laying aside of dreams for the sake of the kids, every parent’s efforts fall short. Every parent, that is, except for our heavenly Father. He sent His Son to us as a man who “for the joy set before him endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2). Don’t forget that the “joy set before him” was you!
