“The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.”

1 Thessalonians 1:8
My wife and I were on Okinawa from 1969-1977 working for the Far East Broadcasting Company. Our station there carried The Haven of Rest radio program at 10:30 P.M. with speaker Paul Evans. Okinawa was a staging point for the war in South East Asia as troops came from and went out to the battlefront. Many of our soldiers listened to the Haven program because it brought hope, comfort, and wisdom for difficult days.
Eventually, the entire Haven Team came to Okinawa, ministering in military chapels, churches, and over the air. Linda and I hosted them in our home for meals. In time, Paul Evans and Truitt Ford returned for continued ministry and stayed with us. A long season of friendship developed. It was Paul’s wife, Babe, in fact, who urged me in no uncertain terms to go into church ministry.
Back in the States I served long and precious years as a pastor, law enforcement chaplain, and hospital chaplain. Praise God for the power of the gospel that continues to go out, always reminding me that only what’s done for Christ will last.
