“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.”

Exodus 20:8-9
Imagine you’re a fruit picker in southern Texas. It’s noon, 103 degrees. You’re drenched with sweat, tired, and only half-finished with the field. Suddenly, your boss shows up. He hands out ice-cold Cokes and tells you and the crew to take the afternoon off. “Just rest,” he says. “I’ll finish the field.”
What a great boss! He cares for you, he refreshes you, he wants you to rest. Our heavenly Father, the ruler of our lives, is like that. And He actually came to us and said, Rest. Since the beginning of creation, God set apart one day in seven for rest. The ultimate goal is to worship Him, but through it He also blesses us. Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man” (Mark 2:27), and in Hebrews we are told to “not give up meeting together” (10:25). This day of rest and worship ought to bring much joy!
Know that God cares for you. Receive His refreshment through fellowship with believers and the preaching of His Word. Sunday is a little glimpse of the rest we have in Jesus, our Redeemer who has done all the work for us.
