"See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks.
If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven."
(HEBREWS 12:25)

Hebrews 12:14-29
Americans celebrate Independence Day with magnificent fireworks, the show culminating in a barrage of the biggest, brightest display that we call “The Grand Finale.”

The writer of Hebrews sends up a grand finale of Bible object lessons. He reminds us in chapter 11 of God’s people throughout the Old Testament, many of them flawed and imperfect, all “commended for their faith” (11:39) yet empty-handed at the end of their days because the Lord had something better for them: eternity with Him.

Our commitment to Christ is serious. What He wants above all from us is not a checked-off list of good deeds we’ve done. He wants our hearts, hearts that return to Him again and again in our failures… hearts so full of gratitude for all He’s done that we want to live every moment for Him.

The fireworks in our hearts start now as we follow hard after Christ. But the “grand finale” still awaits us: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
