“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.”

Psalm 103:13
I remember when my parents had our neighbors over for dinner. Among our guests was a single mother with two children. In the midst of the conversation, my uncle bluntly asked her, “So, where’s the father of your kids?”
“They don’t have one,” she responded. You could sense the bitterness in her voice.
My father knew this woman’s situation, so after the awkward silence, he pulled her aside and said, “You’re a strong woman, Sandy, but you don’t have to do this on your own. If you ever need anything, we are here for you.”
Years later, I would recall this event to my dad. He simply commented, “Not everyone knows their biological father. But this is all the more reason for us to know our heavenly Father.”
I have seen through the years that not everyone is blessed to have a present and loving earthly father. By grace through faith we can know our Heavenly Father through the person and work of His Son. Jesus assures us, “If you really knew me, you would know my Father… Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:7-9). [Norman, Denver, CO; first year student]
