"And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will
live with them. They will be his people,
and... [he] will be their God.'"
(REVELATION 21:3)

John 20:1-18
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central point in God’s great story of the rescue of His people. We learn what happened in history, but more importantly we learn what history is all about: the promise that God will dwell with men and redeem them for His own.

Dwelling with man was a physical reality in the Garden of Eden until-through Adam-we broke that fellowship. But even then God set His plan into motion, giving His very first promise of hope (Genesis 3:15). Later God dwelt in a tabernacle and a temple, guiding Israel. When Israel was unable to keep the law, God spoke through His prophet about Emmanuel (God with us). Jesus, the fulfillment of that prophecy, carried out the entire plan. When He cried, “It is finished!” from the cross, there was not one ounce of work left to be done in order to save us. Christ has done it all!

Jesus’ resurrection is not a random showstopper that solicits applause, and then we all go home. It is the seal of a reality: the eternal God has dwelt and does dwell with us.
