“Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert…, to humble you and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.”

Deuteronomy 8:2
Providentially, our house hadn’t sold while we were out on our sailing trip, so we had a home to return to when our journey ended. My husband resumed work at the company he had worked for. We were sad that we were unable to accomplish our goal, but thankful that we had a place to land.
The arid climate where we live reminds me of the desert the Israelites wandered for forty years. Have you ever felt like you were in a desert season of your life, a time that seemed desolate and solitary, where you were dry and thirsty? Perhaps it has felt like the Lord has left you.
Remember that He said He would never leave you. Not ever! There will be times of testing our faith. Do we still believe Him when we don’t feel His blessings? “He humbled you, causing you to hunger… to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD” (8:3). God’s grace leads us into the desert. His supreme goal is to draw us—even while there—into close relationship with Him, saving us from our pride.
