“The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.”

Psalm 103:6
Early in life a child learns the age-old cry, “It’s not fair!” Though adulthood lowers the frequency and volume of the lament, the truth is that it continues to ring in our hearts. Racism tears apart our social fabric. People around us lie and cheat yet are rewarded for it. We try to do the right thing, but we are unrecognized and uncompensated. So with all our hearts, we cry out, “It’s not fair!”
David tells us of the God who hears these cries and promises to make things right. He will work righteousness and justice for all who cry out, “It’s not fair!” What sweet comfort and hope this gives us in a world that seems so unjust! You can be certain that it will not always be so.
Yet, as good as this news is, we also tremble when we realize that we ourselves are often the oppressors and the unjust. Thanks be to God for Christ Jesus, who lived a life of righteousness and justice and who suffered injustice and oppression on our behalf. Because of Him, we will face God’s justice not as His enemies, but as His friends. [Christopher, Houston, TX; second year student]
