“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift
of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9
I became a believer at 22 years of age while in the Navy. For years I’d wandered in darkness, lost and prideful. Then a friend asked me to go to church, and that day I heard the Word of God preached. By faith I believed in Jesus.
Faith in itself does not save anyone. People put faith in all sorts of things: jobs, spouses, bank accounts, religions. When the Bible speaks of faith, it is always referring to faith in Jesus Christ, the One who lived a righteous life for us and satisfied God’s wrath on the cross. Faith is what unites us to Jesus and His work on our behalf. It’s like the cord that connects an appliance to electricity. We “plug in” to all the benefits God has for us in Jesus.
Therefore, you ought to be overwhelmed with joy today! Your faith is a gift from God. It was not born out of some deep well within you. Rather, like a package delivered to your doorstep, God in His immeasurable grace has given this life-changing gift to you. Rejoice for the faith given to you in Christ. It’s the best gift you’ll ever receive.
