“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

1 John 4:1
I recently read a news story about a skyscraper that is slowly sinking. The structural integrity of its foundation is in question. Lawsuits allege that shoddy engineering and cutting corners by not drilling deep enough to reach solid bedrock are to blame. Those involved in its construction are now being asked how such a serious potential problem could go unrealized.
As a writer, words and ideas matter to me. They are partly how I make my living, but more than that, they are how God has equipped me to do my part in building up believers. I had better be sure what I write is structurally sound and constructed according to God’s Word. My words should not be slowly sinking like that skyscraper.
Aware of our own weaknesses with our words, we also are to be cautious about what we hear and read. Inspect carefully what you are building on. The shifting sands of a watered- down gospel will weaken the integrity of your faith in God. Stand firmly on the solid bedrock of the Bible and see how Jesus changes everything in your life.
