“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Proverbs 9:10
My daughter just had a birthday. We’ve been teaching her to count her days since she was very little. Each year presents a milestone with children, doesn’t it? They start school, they begin driving, they enter college, and so on. These markers are good. But the Bible encourages us to count our days to gain a heart that fears the Lord. In other words, we must make the most out of our days.
Our Christians friends in Cuba feel this same desire. Regardless of our circumstances or legal status, whether we are living in a free country or a communist one, whether we are rich or poor, we are all called to live each day to glorify God with our lives.
Yet this way of living does not come naturally to us. This is why Moses said, “Teach us.” Naturally, we will seek after earthly, temporal things. We need God to teach us how to live each day of our lives for His glory, to count the days so we can make the days count. We’ll be storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth, storing them up where it will count for eternity!
