“…now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”

1 Peter 2:3
Have you recently tasted that the Lord is good? Or is your appetite for His goodness growing dull? God uses our repeated battles with sinful cravings to help us taste His saving grace again and again. That’s why Peter ends his thought about putting away sin and restoring newborn appetite with today’s short verse. God’s pattern is to turn our sin into an opportunity for us to experience that truth again.
God also uses our suffering to keep the goodness of His grace fresh. There can be comfort in our suffering when we know that God is sovereign over it. Peter quotes David’s words from Psalm 34:8, a psalm which tells the story of David’s desperation—when he actually pretended to be crazy in the court of the Philistine king so they wouldn’t kill him. David’s gratitude for that deliverance was so great it produced a Hebrew A-B-C account of God’s grace.
God wants His grace to be a familiar flavor in our lives. That’s why He won’t let the gospel become theoretical, but uses both sin and suffering to help us taste His goodness.
