“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12
I marvel at the power of words and the way language expresses unforgettable meaning. All my life words of affirmation have stuck with me. But just as surely, hurtful words have kept a chokehold on my memory, too. Perhaps you can relate to that.
I am grateful that God’s Spirit has caused His Word to take root in my heart to supply wisdom for living, distaste for sin, and a preserving presence in my life. But more importantly, I have gotten to know Jesus personally through the Bible. I am learning to love and obey Him more.
What people see in a believer who is sincerely following Jesus is a transformed life. Where there is no change, it looks as if God’s Word has gone missing. As important as oxygen is for physical survival, God’s Word fuels abundant spiritual life. Without it, there is no replication of the life of Christ in you.
God loved us so much that He communicated to us using words that were brought to completion in His Son Jesus—the Living Word, the final Word! And He, indeed, is living and active.
