“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:17-18
After waiting on the plane nearly an hour for takeoff, our frustration mounted. Then came the announcement that our flight was cancelled. We would have to deplane and make alternate travel arrangements. This news deeply troubled the passenger seated next to me. She began to tell me how upset she was. “If only the airline knew how desperately I need to arrive on time to see my mother in the hospital before it’s too late! If only they cared!”
I longed to point her to the One who is right there at the place where hurt and disappointment are deepest, to the One who does care. If the Lord is near, then all that is good and right also is near. Think about that. At the very moment that things seem to be caving in around you, the perfect Lord and Creator of good is right at hand. He does not make light of our pain or judge us for it. Rather, He draws near to us to bring healing and restoration.
Are you crushed in spirit today? Do you know someone who is? Your Savior is so very close that He has reached out to touch you.
