"'Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls.'"
(MATTHEW 11:29)

Matthew 11:28-30
On a summer day I took a ski lift up a mountain in Colorado. It was a little odd to see that the radiant white veil usually clothing the slopes was gone. Instead, the hillside was covered with shards of rock and scraps of broken trees. It looked like the casualties of a winter-long war.

Beneath the surface, all of us are like those summer slopes, littered with the debris and wreckage of pain and heartbreak, all visible when the veneer melts off. It would be rare to find someone who hasn’t experienced some sort of brokenness in life, and rarer still to find someone who doesn’t try to cover it somehow.

The thing about life with Jesus is that when we walk with Him, He promises to share our burdens, to actually give us rest from them. He invites us to bring them to the surface and lay them down. When we wrap our messy slopes with the shroud of His glorious snow, we find liberation and new life. Jesus offers us a love that will not just cover over, but will heal our brokenness and sorrow in every season.
