"I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name
of the LORD Most High."
(PSALM 7:17)

Psalm 7
Have you ever felt discouragement and depression? Has your soul felt anguish as David wrote of in many of his psalms? Perhaps you lost your job or a friend let you down, and depression hit like a desert dust storm. This morning, I woke up in a state of sadness remembering my friend had just moved across the country.

Here in Psalm 7, the psalmist seeks hope and refuge in God. He could have folded his hands and sighed. Instead, he took his complaint to God and learned the key to triumph over depression. He learned that by giving thanks to the Lord and singing praises, discouragement and
depression recede.

Jesus once spoke of worshipping the Lord “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23). Moments after thinking of worshipping in spirit and in truth, I heard a mockingbird sing outside my window and was reminded that if creation can call out in praise, I can too. We identify with the anguished cry of heartache in many of the psalms; let’s allow our hearts to also worship in spirit and truth through songs of praise.
