Thousands of years later, she’s still known best by her former title, Rahab “the prostitute.” When the Israelite conquest was imminent, Rahab begged the two spies, “show kindness to my family… spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters…” (Joshua 2:12-13). She sold her body to anyone, yet she was committed to her family. How can that be?


For the past year my wife has volunteered with a local ministry that brings the Gospel to women in the adult entertainment industry. She has met many “Rahabs.” For many of them, a lifestyle of dancing in clubs is the only way they know to put food on the table.


Joshua 6 tells us that when the Israelites conquered Jericho, Rahab and her family were saved physically. Hebrews 11 and James 2 tell us Rahab was also saved spiritually. As the Good News of the conquest of the Son of God over sin goes out into the clubs on Thursday nights, a light shines in the darkness. Still today, God saves Rahab and her family, befriending all of us, sinners though we are.
