"Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock....Restore us, O LORD God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved."
(PSALM 80:1, 19)

Psalm 80
During a time of economic downturn, many of us develop an interest in repurposing or restoring old items to transform them into something useable. One grandmother enjoys stripping paint or varnish from old oak tables and chairs to restore them to their original beauty. A friend of mine buys battered travel trailers and makes them attractive and roadworthy. Recently, I read about a man who transformed an 1800s pump-organ into a gleaming writing desk.

This story, however, is not about tables, battered travel trailers or timeworn pump organs. It is about God transforming us. He hears us when we cry out, “Restore us, LORD.” A thief becomes a well-respected business person. A cancer victim regains health. Addictions are overcome.
A wandering soul finds rest in the Lord.

Because of Jesus and His work on the cross, we see our lives restored, or repurposed to something better. He never leaves us. Again and again in the Bible, we read that the
Lord walks with us in all situations, turning our sadness into great joy.
