"Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed
the hearts of the saints."
(PHILEMON 7)

Romans 12:6-12
Our shock was evident! A total stranger had just risked his life in a blinding snowstorm on a slick exit ramp to get our dying car going again. Then he stayed with us until we coasted into a motel parking lot. “I’ll come in with you to make sure they have rooms left. If not, my place is nearby and you can stay with me for the night.” How often does a person run across a “good Samaritan” like that?

My husband and I suspected we were in the presence of one of God’s ministering angels. Hospitality of this order, once so common, is sadly rare these days. To our delight, we’ve since found this young man to be wholly flesh and blood. Though we didn’t need to accept his offer, we’ve mused often on how he embodied what God’s Word teaches in today’s reading.

Climbing into a strange hotel bed that night, despite thoughts of tow trucks and costly repairs, our hearts were strangely lifted. We prayed that God would make us ever more generous and give us opportunities to express His love to others in similar ways.
