“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16
Today is my son’s birthday. He’s our firstborn, and his birth was a moment of wonder and awe for his father and me. Hidden away in my body, he was there, and I was keenly aware of his signs of life. I could feel him moving and growing. But when he was born, when I first laid eyes on him and heard his cry, the mystery of new life became reality. In that moment, everything changed for me. My son was no longer a movement inside; he was a person I loved!
Nicodemus was astonished at Jesus’ words, “No one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (John 3:3). Though he was an elder and teacher in Israel, Nicodemus found this idea of “new birth” to be a mystery. He knew because of the signs that Jesus was a teacher who had come from God. But for his spiritual eyes to be opened, he had to be born again—this time of the Spirit.
Until that moment, Nicodemus couldn’t see Jesus for who He was, the One sent by God to bring eternal life. None of us can. But when we are born again in Jesus, everything changes forever!
