“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself in this way.”

Daniel 1:8
That’s where it all starts: in your heart with your mind, will, and emotions. That’s the story of Daniel. No matter what would come along to upend him, he purposed in his heart to stay with God. Before the looming temptation ever arose, he had pre.determined that he would not defile himself. He resolved to “just say no.”
Was it just shear will-power and self-confidence that enabled Daniel to stand firm while he’d been captured and uprooted from his family, moved to a different country, and assigned a new name? No! Verse 17 says God gave Daniel and his friends their knowledge and understanding. Even when the king tried to take away his God, Daniel remained true in his heart to the Lord. An abiding relationship with the personal, miracle-working God had already been established before Daniel faced hardships.
Have you been with God every day, keeping Him in the forefront, morning, noon, and night? If so, you’ll turn to your side in a difficulty and there is the Lord, right there! For He’s purposed in His heart to be there for you!
