"He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way."
(PSALM 25:9)

Psalm 25:1-12
Decades ago when changes were taking place in the radio ministry on Okinawa, our vice-president arrived and let me know, “I’m here to appoint you as Field Director/Station Manager for us.” Totally caught off guard, I spent the next few weeks praying about this. With a fair amount of fear and sweaty palms, I assumed the responsibility for the next four years. They turned out to be wonderfully exciting.

Those were times when the words of David in today’s passage helped me. First, deep within himself, David focused on and trusted in God alone. Second, his heart was open and teachable, expecting God’s long-term guidance. Verse 9 uses the word “humble” twice in the NKJV. “The humble He guides in justice,” and “the humble he teaches his way.” Humility here deals with one who has been afflicted and under pressure, who knows there is none to turn to but God. Been there? I certainly have when circumstances and decisions overwhelmed.

And finally, my only source of hope (v. 5) has been and ever will be Jesus Christ!
