Paul’s first letter to Timothy in the Bible gives instructions about worship. It is a given at the outset that prayer is a part of worship. Pray the following prayer as you come to worship your God and Savior who wants us all “to lift up holy hands in prayer” (2:8).

“Lord, we step away from the world of computers, cell phones, televisions, movies, and books that consume so much of our lives. We break from things that we can see, handle, and hear so that we might now turn to you, our Eternal God, the Unseen One, whom we cannot see, touch, or hear.

“Lord, you must be inwardly felt and spiritually known even as your spirit moves in us. Please give us a quiet mind and a clear conscience that we may come in reverence to worship before your presence. We invite you to cross over the thresholds of our heart and make there a secure sanctuary of worship. Thank you that we are called blessed and happy people because we have not seen you, yet we still believe. And so, Father, make our joy satisfying and our faith complete. Amen.”
