"Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden... and the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground... pleasing to
the eye and good for food."
(GENESIS 2: 8-9)

Mark 4:1-14
Farmers understand the importance of planting seeds carefully. One spring Saturday during college, my friends and I worked for a lady who gave us thousands (perhaps millions?) of tomato seeds to plant in her enormous field.

We started out by digging tiny holes, dropping in a few sees, and covering them with dirt as she instructed. The work was painfully slow and hot. As the hours went on, the more convinced we became that these seeds would never grow. I’m ashamed to say we finished the day feeling our work was futile and throwing seeds all over the end of the field. You wouldn’t have called it “planting with care.”

The good news of Christ is like planning seed. We may plant the seed of the Gospel, others may water it, and God makes it grow
(see 1 Corinthians 3:6). Every day we meet people who need Jesus. A kind word, a smile, a helping hand… these are the seeds of the Gospel. Let’s plant those seeds carefully, prayerfully, and patiently, showing the love of Jesus to the many people we meet.
