“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”

Psalm 119:97
We humans have the freedom to choose what we think about. We have not been programmed by anyone else. There is great responsibility in this because the things we put before our minds can form what we think and who we become. So when the psalmist says in various ways that he loves to meditate on God’s law, we ought to do the same.

In Psalm 23 David paints a picture of God as a shepherd leading us to green pastures and quiet waters, restoring our souls, taking us through dark valleys, and seating us at a table of abundance. If you place this picture before your mind each morning, how will you then interpret the things that happen in your day? Will fear and anxiety grip your heart? Will you need to strive and struggle? No, because you are convinced God is with and for you. You become one who is persuaded that “goodness and love” will pursue you all the days of your life.

From A to Z, throughout 176 verses, Psalm 119 speaks again and again of delighting in and meditating on God’s Word. Try it! You’ll be delighted, too.
