“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For… your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

Matthew 6:31-32
Any Christian who has been in business for himself knows that doing so pushes you to Jesus for dependence. For 18 years we owned a country market accessed by our customers from two bridges over a freeway. When one of the bridges was torn down for replacement and then the second one was closed for repair, traffic to our store nearly halted. Sales sank, and we faced some very lean times.

But even in those times, we  could depend on the Lord’s provision for us. It was evidenced for me when a friend passed along to me a clothing catalogue with items I really liked but could not afford. Sensitive to our tight finances, I started using a nearby thrift shop. Wouldn’t you know it? There I found the very item of clothing from the catalogue in my size for a fraction of the regular cost!

The Lord knows our needs. He also is a loving Father who delights to give us good things. When you dwell  on His providence, you feel a sense of peace wash over you and you know “those who seek the Lord lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:10).
