"The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, 'Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? ...no sign will be given to it.'"
(Mark 8:11-12)

Matthew 12:38-42
“Jesus sighed deeply…” Jesus understands the frustration of the same old issues coming up over and over again, and the person just not getting it. The Pharisees were testing Jesus again to prove who He was. He performed miracles wherever He went, yet they wanted their own personal proof that Jesus was the kind of Messiah they expected Him to be. The political Messiah they envisioned and desired was not surfacing, so they asked for another sign seeking confirmation of what their perception of the Messiah was “supposed to be.”

I wonder if Jesus sighs at me sometimes. I want Him and the life He has given me to be a certain way, and it isn’t exactly what I think it should be. So then, like the Pharisees, I ask for a sign from Jesus to prove His love for me … again. I ask Him to give me what I think I signed up for in this “Christian life.”

When you think the Christian life has you stuck and you’re frustrated, ask Jesus, “How can I passionately serve you?” Remember that He is the Messiah we were looking for!
