“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

Hebrews 4:13
As you read this, I will be finishing up my time in seminary and approaching graduation day. I think about all the exams I’ve taken over the years. They’ve been extremely difficult, particularly because they reveal not only what I do know, but especially what I do not know. Multiple times I’ve gone into one of these exams confident in my preparation, only to be reminded later by the grade that my knowledge is very limited, even after much studying.
In Luke 12 Jesus gives a stern warning: hypocrisy is liable to judgment because there is nothing hidden from God. Omniscience means that God knows all; He knows Himself and His creation perfectly, and there is nothing apart from His knowledge. In other words, God has nothing to learn.
Jesus’ strong words should lead us to rest in Him and fear Him for who He is (v. 5). His gentle words remind us that no sparrow is forgotten (v. 6), and neither are we. Down to the hairs on our head, we are known, loved, provided for, valued, and accepted by the all-knowing God in Jesus.
